ABOUT ME AND KROKKET

My name is Kris Bourgetel, and I'm a psychologist, golfer and designer.

Krokket is my professional front.

I offer services in psychology, golf and design, write about what interests me, and keep a portfolio of things I've made.

MY BACKGROUND

I graduated as a clinical psychologist at the University of Oslo in 2013, completed an elective programme in organisation and leadership through the Norwegian Psychological Association, and studied drawing at Einar Granum School of Fine Art. Before I found my path in psychology, I studied economics and Japanese, and spent an exchange semester in Tokyo.

As a psychologist I've worked in private practice and occupational health services, with experience in individual therapy, guidance, conflict resolution, courses and development processes, as well as e-learning and digitalisation.

In 2018 I founded the social entrepreneurship "Spillverket" (The Game Works) — a psychosocial learning arena where youth and young adults learned to make video games and worked together as if in a game studio. We ran it as a pilot project for four years, concluding with a custom-built game installation at the Henie Onstad Art Centre called "Spillfilter" (Game Filter, event page only in Norwegian).

Since then, together with close friends and colleagues, I've been at the helm of the game studio Luftskip (formerly Luda). There, I've worked on 3D graphics, game design, web app development, learning games and gamification. Our largest project is the game "Starmasons".

ABOUT KROKKET

The idea for Krokket came in 2024, when I rediscovered golf and the interplay between physical and mental health, meaning and personal development.

After many years as an entrepreneur, I wanted to establish a base where I could both practise as a psychologist and bring together personal projects and services. I am, and remain, adventurous — but everyone needs a safe harbour.

At Krokket I keep three hats on the shelf: psychologist, golfer and visual artist. Whichever one I'm wearing, I'm a generalist with a strong creative drive, and I thrive when I can be myself.

Why "Krokket"?

"Krokket" is the distinctly Norwegian name for the garden game "croquet," which shares its origins with golf. Like many people, it was a big part of my childhood in the 80s and 90s. Krokket is undeniably cool, both to play and as a piece of pop culture. The word KROKKET is strong visually and sounds great — and as it happens, it's etymologically related to kroki (croquis), which is a quick sketch, and krokan (croquant), which is my favourite ice cream flavour. It had to be Krokket.

The Psychologist

As a psychologist I am open, honest and tolerant. I meet others as equals, and use the techniques and theories I believe are the most suited. In professional terms, this could be described as working humanistically, person-centred and integratively. For me, it's a necessity. Psychology is a science — the best we have to go on — but I'm only human, and we humans can only do our best.

A good conversation is a walk in the fog.

That's why I believe we have to start with an open mind, and tolerate not knowing. It can feel uncomfortable, perhaps even frightening, but I believe it's the only reliable path to a good life — and that real change doesn't come from forcing what we think we want, but from discovering what is.

The Golfer

As a golfer I am engaged, focused and tireless. I draw energy from turning over every stone, and have strong feelings about my game. Both positive and negative — but the negative ones are positive too. They're part of caring.

You can't walk into a shop and buy engagement.

I've been lucky enough to find it. Golf has made me love training, and afterwards I savour good shots like everlasting gobstoppers. I'm one of those clowns practising their swing in the shop, and I'm not embarrassed about it. On top of that comes the joy of playing together and watching others hit their stride. It quickly makes me forget my own game. The loudest I've ever cheered on a golf course was the time I lost a match to a putt that should have gone down in the history books.

The Visual Artist

As a visual artist I move between seeing the bigger picture and forming associations and references, and actually producing. Then I become something I rarely am otherwise: quiet and inward-looking. I'm meticulous — searching for the form, colour and format that evoke the right feeling and tell the same story from multiple angles. I first found my love of visual expression with a pencil, but have gravitated toward digital tools.

I enjoy searching just as much as making.

My main focus is on functional 3D models — as part of a world, or with behaviour and animation. I also engage with graphic design, such as typography, logos and layout. On top of that, I've worked with video across various projects. Video production is many fields in one, and I enjoy all of them — without being an expert in any.

SERVICES AND COLLABORATION

At Krokket I see clients for psychology sessions at my office and on the golf simulator, I deliver courses and organisational psychology consulting, and I take on projects in 3D graphics and design.

I've chosen to build and present Krokket the way I have in order to show a truthful picture of who I am, how I think and work, and what you can expect from me as a collaborator.

What I do is a big part of who I am as a person, and I'm always open to connecting with others who work in the same field, or who are curious about what I do, why, and how.

CONTACT

If you have questions, want to collaborate, connect, discuss something I've written on the blog, or give me feedback on something in the portfolio, my door is always open. Send me a message through the contact form, or find me somewhere on the internet, at Custom Golf, or out on the golf course.
